Kết nối Intercultural Connections Program! Kết nối means to Connect in Vietnamese!
Kết nối provides school holiday events for youth aged 5-25 years of age of Vietnamese background who are living with a disability and residing in Brimbank.
The program offers supported opportunities for young people (with various types of disabilities) and their immediate families to experience locally based activities and to explore the communities in which they live.
Kết nối began in December 2022 with funding from Brimbank Council’s Community Grants Scheme. In 2023, our events centered around themes of sports, ecology, sustainability, and artistic pursuits, resulting in a highly successful program.
In 2024, bolstered by continued support from the Brimbank Council, the Kết nối Intercultural Connections program will delve into, illuminate, and celebrate some of the diverse cultural groups and traditions flourishing within the local council area.
All Kết nối events are aimed at building friendships, having fun, trying out new experiences and strengthening everyday skills that assist in feeling more connected with each other, our families, and the wider community.
Each event is supported by a team of Extended Families’ Staff who are fully screened and experienced in working with children and youth with disabilities. Vietnamese speaking staff participate at each event. At each event we work closely with local community groups to deliver activities that participants and families can experience in an ongoing way.
Events will generally run for 3 hours during school holiday times and will be located in Brimbank. Four main events will be held in 2024 - one in April, June, September, and December.
Our program events are subsidised and require only a small per family contribution fee of $10 per event to attend! Note that if families find it difficult to contribute this fee because of financial hardship, the fee will be reduced or waived.
Kết nối Eligibility
Enrolled participants who have a disability, their parents and siblings can attend Kết nối events. To be eligible, participants with a disability should be aged 5-25 years and must live in the Brimbank local government area.
